BTGN Launches new site, MEC merges with BfME Tournaments
Monday, March 17th, 2008

Our colleagues over at the main Big Time Gaming Network site have re-launched their entire site just a few days ago. It now features a lot of info, screenshots, wallpapers, patches and more for a bunch of games, including ‘Tiberium’ and Starcraft 2! Make sure to check them out!

Most importantly for MEC though, this means we will now be taking over anything and everything related to the Lord of the Rings in the network. Previously, these matters were handled by bfmetournaments.com. This also means MEC will be holding a lot more tournaments for BfME in the future! All forums, domains and content pages that were previously located on bfmetournaments are now being redirected to MEC. We feel that this is a logical decision, seeing as two sites competing in the same network don’t make much sense.

So what does this mean for MEC? Nothing much. We have set out on a new course last September, and plan to continue to organise community events for all Lord of the Rings games, as well as forum-related contests and events. We at MEC feel honoured to be the spiritual successor of a site that has held some of the biggest BfME tournaments ever!

tbh you say it doesnt mean a lot, but in actuality I see this as a huge opprotunity for the site to flourish by using community events seen in few other places.

I say it isn't a huge thing because a few factors are to be noted:

A) It is VERY VERY VERY hard to get ANY sponsors whatsoever for BfME contests, tournaments etc. Not to mention the fact that Apoc never gets back to any BfME-related emails really. With RA3 coming up, its looking grim in terms of sponsors and EA support
B) BfMET hasn't hosted any BfME tournaments for about a year. As such it isn't as popular and known throughout the community as it was in 2004-2006

But yea, we're going to keep on hosting community events regardless. The fact that EA doesn't see a future in BfME does by no means mean that we don't. We've built up some great community contacts with this new tournament, which I think will be key to hosting future events here at MEC or maybe even co-host them with other sites!
