Press Watch: IGN Conquest Hands-on
Thursday, July 10th, 2008

IGN has put up a pre-E3 Conquest hands-on, detailing some of their gameplay experiences, as well as a few flashy new screenshots and a video interview with Eric “Giz” Gewirtz.

Don’t expect anything shocking, but it does reveal some very interesting tidbits. Here is one of them, revealing just how the melee combat will look:

For the second section of the demo I took on the role of a warrior. Set inside the walls of Minas Tirith, you must defend against the siege as it breaks through the front gate. There is a large circle in the open hall and you shall not let anyone pass. Combat in Conquest is simple, button-mashing fun. It’s the standard light and heavy attacks. Score some combos and you can unleash your true power in the form of fiery sword slashes.

As mentioned, IGN also interviewed Eric “Giz” Gewirtz - Director for the game. The interview is embedded below:

Last, but not least, IGN posted a bunch of new screenshots, which show significant improvements over those we’ve seen thus far.

Those graphics are amazing! That warg has a mowhawk, lol!!
Thorgaz:
Sweet! Looks like they finally got some more Orc models ready to roll. I am excited!
Raiden:
lol yeah wow Thorgaz you were thinking exactly what i was. the orcs we saw in the first screenshots looked nothing like there supposed to but today i noticed that their armor and faces have changed. and thats in a good way. :D that would have been a complaint from me but i now they look pretty good and who knows they might even improve on them more. that would be great. and LOTR spartan when i saw that pic with the easterling on the warg i was extremely impressed. makes me even more excited for the evil campaign.

Wuzaa-man:
The mage with the green outfit.
_Freek:
Ah right, yeah he does look abit like Link now that you mention it :P

I have to say I'm really impressed with the graphics now though. Amazing what just a bit of anti-aliasing and improved textures can do :D Looks very sharp, great details.
Cheeky Hobbit:
Theoden's armour is so detailed it's incredible. What can I say? The textures look great, as does the lighting and character models. This will truly be the best LOTR experience available.
_Freek:
Yes. Seeing LotR from a 3rd person view with next-gen graphics is great. I can't wait to see how the world will come to life in this game and the future games sure to follow (with the Hobbit movies coming up)
Cheeky Hobbit:
Precisely. I for one am hoping for LOTR: The White Council to be put back into development.

With you on that one, I was really disappointed when they stopped on it's development. It promised to be a great game in my eyes.
zach:
Yea me 2, although Lotro is my rpg fix for now.
_Freek:
I hardly think you can compare the two, It's like comparing Oblivion to WoW which are entirely different games.

Still, Conquest is at least shaping up to be a REAL LotR game. I have my doubts of TWC ever being picked up again, especially with the current content aging and becoming obsolete in a few years.
hurin:
but... that's not theoden's sword, in the old pics he had the original sword
LOTR Spartan:
It kinda looks like he is chopping off heads
Even though they are potions

Didnt EA annouce they were making 2 lotr game though?
_Freek:
No, they didn't. You must be confusing EA with New Line :P
zach:
I swore EA acquired the rights to 2 lotr games.
_Freek:
EA can make as many games as they want, the license is limited time wise and content wise, but not regarding the amount of products.
