OXM Conquest Preview
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

OXM has posted a preview of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest. It is, like many others, positive towards the game. However, there is mention of a ‘Defender’ class - is this the much speculated Guardian class, or is it just the Warrior class? The preview also states that Helms Deep will go beyond what was shown in the films:

But, of course, we’ll all play single-player as well, and Conquest opens as the Uruk’Hai charge at Helm’s Deep. As in Battlefront, you pick your character type from a carousel of options: archer, mage, defender, scout, and more. They each have special abilities (mages toss fireballs and can heal; archers play like third-person shooters), and if you choose unwisely, you can switch at any time. Helm’s Deep is a massive level, and while you’ll kick ladders off the wall and stop the suicidebomber orcs as usual, you’ll also scrap in places the film never showed, deep inside the mammoth mountain.

Hmmm. Speculation is sure to increase following this preview, so hopefully Pandemic can shed some light on a few issues in the upcoming months.

The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will be released this fall on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Nintendo DS.

Ayodon:
so this means we can fight in the glittering caves cool thanks cheeky hobbit
Cheeky Hobbit:
Pleasure, and the preview does confirm that we will be fighting in the Glittering Caves.
FaceCake:
i heard already that the guardian class was already stated not to be.
_Freek:
This could simply be yet another mix-up, seeing as how the "Warrior" is not mentioned. It could also be that Pandemic has simply changed the name for the class.

I am fairly confident that the issue will be settled "soon" ;)
Thorgaz:
Hmm... Sounds like somebody *nudge nudge* has some inside information.

It just dawned on me after reading the article that the evil and the good campaign won't fight in any of the same places. Is my postulation correct?
_Freek:
You're incorrect. The evil campaign will play out in reverse order to the good campaign first, so you get to conquer Minas Tirith and Helms Deep as a second attempt. Then you go on to some locations not featured in the good campaign, such as Rivendell, Weathertop and the Shire.
Thorgaz:
gotcha. I was thinking it would be strange if you couldn't assault Minas Tirith and Helms Deep. The evil campaign is straying so far from the original storyline (which is fine by me) that I was kinda confused. Thanks for clearing that up.
FaceCake:
i think it will be cool to play
