Hmm... the Minas Tirith level reminds me too much of RoTK's Minas Tirith levels (defend the Main gate, destroy the towers). Though it still looks very impressive, actualy it's amazing :D! I just don't like how you can just simply change from swordsman to mage or archer, it looks kind of stupid. It would be much better if you could choose a character and just go with it to the end.

It was so awesome when the swordsman jumped on the troll at the Main gate :D!
_Freek:
To be honest, I think the game looks MUCH better in daylight with all the lighting effects going on, but it does look amazing.

It looks like the character movement is a bit flimsy, he's walking around like he doesn't know where he's going.

That's how it worked in BF I/II too. And no-one's telling you to change characters, you can play with one character to the end if you want :P
zach:
Wow, this game looks so fun. It loos really polished already too!! An 2008 release doesnt seem so bad now. :)
Aragorn{Strider}:
ok. now i cant wait till the 4th! it said something about something for the game coming on the 4th.

also, those guys that are playing it are so lucky!
_Freek:
The fourth of what? August?
Aragorn{Strider}:
idk. they just said something about the 4th. watch the end of the video again.

Yeah I know that I can hold with one through the whole game... but the fact that a simple gondorian warrior can flip into a mage within a second is kind of stupid... yuo know what I mean, non-realistic :S.

Yeah, agreed :P...
HMMcKamikaze:
This game looks great, but it's hard to tell how much depth it has. Battlefront didn't have much in comparison to the more realistic shooters; you could take more hits and the aiming mechanism was more simplified. The game catered more to fans than it did those who play shooters, which meant it was relatively less competitive. I'm not saying that's a bad things, it's just that it would be nice if the gameplay style allows room for improvement where skill can really be fully realized in the game.

Yes I agree! This game has so much potential to be a big clan game like Halo or Call of Duty.
_Freek:
I think it has less, actually. Only 8 players per side, with the rest being random bots. Its just less competitive then all human players.

I will have a big clan base, but nothing compared to CoD, Battlefield or Halo.
zach:
Theres one thing this game has that many dont. Its a Fantasy FPS.... Its in a more open genre with not many games in it. Heck a new FPS is released every other week it seems.
_Freek:
Do you think it will be more popular because of that? Just because its one of the first in a genre doesn't mean it has to be exceptionally popular. Just look at Halo 2 and 3. They are basically the same as the first, yet there's a huge active fanbase and community.
Aragorn{Strider}:
I still agree with zach. This game just blows me away, and it's just a LOTR version of SWBF!
zach:
They each added Lots of new features and gameplay changes whild not changing the base game, thus keeping the fast-paced action a lot of people like.

Anyways Battlefront was HIGHLY popular online at the time and that was before online gaming was as big as it is now. Heck back then the regular PS2s didnt even come with a internet port. Now this generation is MUCh biger on online play. It may not reach to scal of Halo 3 or CoD 4, but I am betting it is gunna have a pretty big fanbase.
_Freek:
Sure it will, but we don't know enough about the persistent online features (which it will need) like leaderboards and unlockables - which could really improve the online prowess of the game.
Aragorn{Strider}:
could somebody get the video from yesterday? i know freek said the updates on info but i still wanna see tthe video anyway. Just to watch them lucky people play.
_Freek:
You can watch the G4 video in the first post. The IGN video is linked in a thread as well. The gamespot one is available on their website.
angelastar:
oh my gosh i just watched the video of the gameplay i cant wait for it now, gosh i am so excited wow thats great that we can finally be able to play as the bad guys, and the others players not just the heroes thats so cool, does anyone know approxiamently when release date will be i am sure its a long ways off right.
zach:
Well its been rumored October-November.
_Freek:
Several sites have it at November 4th, which shouldn't be too far off. But there's still a good while left for issues to arise or development not going as fast as expected, that could push the date forward. This is especially so since they're developing for three platforms at the same time (not counting the DS).
Cheeky Hobbit:
Well if any problems would occur system-wise, it would be because of the PS3. Don't think of that as having a bash at the PS3, because I love the console and its upcoming games (well, more specifically Little Big Planet). Developers are starting to get to grips with the hardware of the PS3 now, but usually a multiplatform game is developed on PC first then ported to the consoles. Being similar hardware, it is easier for the PC version to be ported over to the 360 version.

I still can't get over how great this game is looking by the way - it has exceeded my expectations. :)
Lotrbiggestfan:
I am excited. It looks sweet. Anyone who wants to start a 360 clan sign me up.
_Freek:
Zach has a clan right here at MEC. http://www.middleearthcenter.com/for....php?groupid=2

And Cheeky Hobbit, as far as I'm aware games are usually designed ON the PC FOR the xbox360, with the Xbox360 having less technical prowess then the PC does (like the 360 not supporting DX10, for example) and usually this is then ported to the PS3. So I'm not sure if Pandemic is developing it on the PS3 already, or is going to wait porting it until they basically finished the PC/360 versions of the game.

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about the multiplayer component on the PC/PS3, whether or not they are going to use dedicated servers like normal FPS games, or provide servers for us.
zach:
Well usually when there is just a PS3 and 360 version its made for the 360. But this has a PC version aswell. In my opnion DX10 isnt that much better than DX9, so I would rather them focus on gameplay than adding DX10 support for PC.
_Freek:
DX10 owns DX9, just take a look at some of the comparison shots for Crysis or LotRO. But I dont think Conquest will make a leap to DX10. Top-notch graphics aren't its main selling points - although it looks awesome, it doesn't look exceptional.
zach:
It looks awesome for me ....
