The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is an action-packed game created by the same Pandemic Studios team behind the best-selling Star Wars Battlefront™ and Star Wars Battlefront™ II titles. Set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” universe as depicted by the Academy Award®-winning films, players will finally fight the entirety of these epic battles any way they want. In addition to crusading as the heroic forces of good, for the first time ever in a ‘The Lord of the Rings’ action title they’ll conquer Middle-earth while playing as the legions of Sauron’s evil army, including Cave-trolls, Oliphaunts, the Balrog and Sauron himself. The game is set for a global release in early 2009.
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is a third-person action game by the same Pandemic Studios behind games such as Star Wars Battlefront™ and Star Wars Battlefront™ II . Set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” universe as depicted by the Peter Jackson films, players will be put in the shoes of soldiers of both sides in the War of the Ring.

Gameplay

Basic gameplay is very similar to that of third-person shooters. Players will be able to play as four basic classes: The melee “Warrior”, sneaky “Scout”, ranged “Archer” or the magical “Mage” class. The game also features almost all the heroes featured in the movies, including heroes such as the Balrog, Gandalf and even Sauron himself. (Heroes and Classes)

The game will feature creatures and equipment that can be used as ‘vehicles’ to quickly take you to your objective or burst trough the enemies gates. Imagine controlling the lumbering Mûmakil, or playing as the towering Ents. Players will be able to use special skills, tactics and additional weapons to trick their foes, like deploying tar traps and using their own siege equipment against them. (Vehicles and Equipment)

Conquest is loaded with gameplay modes, some of the classic FPS modes like Capture the Flag and Deathmatch are included, but also new modes like Hero Deatmatch or Capture the Ring.

Maps and Locations

The game will feature all the epic battles and locations in the films, and has a lot of scenarios not detailed in the films. Alternatively, players can choose to play the Evil campaign, which raises the question of what would have happened if Sauron killed Frodo and got the ring back.
