Hobbit Films Pushed Back a Year?
Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

According to Variety the first Hobbit film will get a 2011 Christmas release, with the second following the year after. This is just speculation, but with the recent news of the lawsuit, and then the incorporation of New Line into Warner Bros., such a delay isn’t unreasonable. The end of New Line means that Warner Bros. will have more films to take on so something will have to be put on hold, and “Harry Potter will have wound down at WB by then, and the corporation will surely welcome another fantasy franchise that has an eager global audience waiting. New Line will distribute domestically, while MGM has international rights.”

Humm, does the movie still feature the same actors as the other lord of the rings movies? For gandolf, bilbo and golum at-least.
HMMcKamikaze:
I don't think that anyone has been hired yet. I mean, even Del Toro as director isn't 100% certain. I know both Ian Mckellen and Andy Serkis have expressed interest in acting in the new films. But I think they will need a new actor to play Bilbo since Ian Holm is in his late 70's and probably not in good enough condition to play the part again.

Ian mckellen better be in it. He did an excellent job as Gandalf.
HMMcKamikaze:
I can't see him not getting the role unless some higher up at WB as some problem with it, or if he's unavailable at the time. I assume this project would be at the top of his list, though. From a commercial standpoint I'm sure everything will be done to capitalize on the success of the previous films, and the best way to do that is to bring back the names that are associated with it. First they got PJ, and now it's time for the actors.
payne:
Yea--I'd be really disappointed if Ian Mckellen, Andy Serkis, and Ian Holm don't return for The Hobbit.
zach:
Yea I would aswell....
_Freek:
Well, I feel this is a nessecary step seeing recent developments. The lore doesn't deserve a rushed movie!
zach:
Yea I agree, these movies should be not be rushed at all.
