30th May 2010Del Toro announced today that he no longer would be directing the two Hobbit films. The production of the movies is taking longer than what was originally though due to numerous delays and the continued trouble with MGM. He states that the discussions regarding possibly making the Hobbit in 3D are not the cause of the delays. However he stated actor deals could net be closed without a greenlight for the movies and that cannot be given with MGM currently up for auction.
