A batch of new screens for Snowblind’s upcoming action-RPG War in the North have been released, courtesy of Gamersyde. Seemingly taken from the same location as the last series of screens, we’re introduced to a Dwarf informing some Goblins that it’s ‘Hammer Time’, an Elf who’s been taking tips from Legolas and a Human magician. Oh, and a very angry Troll.
To view the screens in all their glory, click here. Also, you will no doubt be able to view them in our screenshot gallery very, very soon.
War in the North is being developed by Snowblind Studios and will be published under Warner Bros. It is scheduled for released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2011.

Much better! The grass and trees still look a bit off though, 2D foilage textures are so 1999 :(

Looks like a great ps2 game!
Were these shots taken from the Ettenmoors, or have i completely made that up?
The WITN fan page on Facebook says there'll be screenshots from Mirkwood coming up at some point.

I may have slightly exaggerated (maybe a lot), but it still looks pretty damn weird. Although the fellowship models seem to be far more polished than the environments and i reckon the orcs too.
Cheeky Hobbit:
It's still a long way off, mind you. Personally, I think it's shaping up to be a good looking game.

I would imagine the environment would be on the last things they polish up. Looks great so far.
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
All RPGs need astounding environment details.

Well generally in game development, final artwork is among the last things finished. Programmers hit it off hard in the beginning but after that the artists and level designers really kick it into gear. Since we still have at least half a year, then there is a LOT of time for polish.

I'm still waiting for some moving images to start discussing the state of the graphics :P
Perhaps a bad example, but it's the only one I can think of right now; screens of Conquest look hideous, while moving pictures look a lot better (still not what it should have been, but it looked better anyway).
So show me the gameplay :P

What I like is the artstyle we're seeing. Even though the graphics aren't exactly top notch yet, we at least don't have to look at multicolored magic/swords effects.

Then again GTAIV is pretty old, games have come quite a way since then. As the console ages developers learn how to squeeze more and more out of the hardware, as game engines are optimized.
Cheeky Hobbit:
This is Snowblind's first attempt on such consoles though, as far as I'm aware. And I'm guessing that this is their own engine?
zach:
Well they have an 360 Arcade game ... but that doesn't count. I assume they have their own engine, which is why it prolly looks like this ... Hopefully they optimize it and such before the launch, we have some time though.
ElveHaldir:
This is their first attempt, but since WB has been a big, expanding gaming company the last few years, I'm guessing they had some support from devs who were more familiar with the systems :)
zach:
I am guess they have been working on this engine for a long time, as they havn't put out anything other than a small arcade title for several years.
Cheeky Hobbit:
I would have thought this has been in the making for some time, yes.
I still think it looks really good, considering how long there is left to polish things etc.
