This weekend marks another edition of the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, Washington. Snowblind will be on the expo floor with a demo for War in the North, and Middle-earth Centers’ own admin Heron will be hands-on to provide everyone with the latest info, news, tidbits and media. Going to PAX yourself? Make sure to let Heron know and maybe we can set up a meeting!

Stay tuned to our front-page, forums and our Twitter account for the latest and greatest!

Bareandir:

I've read on another site that the WB-booth restarts the 3 player co-op gameplaydemo every 30minutes.
Therefore I demand gameplayfootage, even if it is from a camera :).

ElveHaldir:

On theOneRing.net they already have some footage uploaded :)

Though I think they can't directly film what's on the big screen, they filmed the public's reaction and you can see one of the 3 devs playing. It's an indirect and low quality way of having gameplay footage, but at least there is some :P

here it is:

PS sorry to go to a rival-site, but I swear I won't visit them again :P

Mithrandir7:

Expect lots of pictures, information, twitter updates, and all that good stuff in the coming days. Snowblind was even so kind as to invite Heron to dinner. :)

ElveHaldir:

Ooh, a nice meal of Dwarven heads in troll spit :D

I'm really looking forward to the MEC coverage:)

Heron:

I'll do my best to get as much info as possible. I'll even beg to get video footage :)

Your best bet for up-to-date info will be Twitter, since all I'll have with out and easily usable is my iPhone.

Heron:

Cell network is very spotty, I'll wrote a longer post later... WitN is very dark and gritty. They keep emphasizing that they are very focused on representing war as Tolkien knew it, as he showed it in his books, and I can see it certainly has a strong influence on the game.

Arctic Squirrel:

Heron, I beg you to ask a question for me.

PLEASE ask them if at any point during production, will we be able to pick our class instead of picking our race with a locked class.

Example, Could I be an elf warrior?

And if not, can you ask them if you can play your character as if they are a different class.

Example, I am a mage, by any chance could I spend points on being stronger and then me basically being a warrior, but still a mage.

I really want to know that too :P They've been keeping this a very well kept secret until now :P

Mithrandir7:

Aside from the fact that Heron is probably enjoying himself too much to answer right now, please don't assume that the WitN team will be able to answer every question that we ask. I'm not saying whether or not they'll answer this particular question, but they will not be completely open at this stage of development.

Yams In a can:

Congrats Heron for being able to be there. :D

Heron:

Arctic Squirrel already got the answer via PM, but I'll repeat it here:
"We can't answer that question."

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

ElveHaldir:

Yeah, I know they can't answer all the questions. I've been having that trouble even with a game 4 years after it got canceled :P

Thanks for asking, Heron! :D

That generally means: "We're going back to the drawing board on that one."

Freek:

Yeah, they're always very reluctant to reveal info on things that are likely to be subject to changes in the future.

More like "Crap, we forgot that one! XD"

I doubt they forgot about it completely, as Freek said they're not going to answer questions on things that might change in the future. Consider the fact that he didn't answer the question definitely as a sign that it might happen.

For Conquest it seemed to mean "i'm not telling you because you'll be disappointed". Fortunately, Snowblind seem much more involved in the community.

ElveHaldir:

I know, I was just joking about the classes :)

And what do you mean with Snowblind is more involved with the community?
They do answer more questions at events and certainly aim for a much higher quality than Conquest, but their boards for War in the North are even worse than those of Conquest ...
At Conquest there at least was an (indirect) associate giving updates and keeping order on the forum.

Not that Conquest turned out so great because of that, but I don't really think the devs are "keeping in touch" with the community for this game ...
Now I'm even more curious about the news Heron will bring :(

Stephen:

Well to be honest, i haven't visited to WiTN forums or website since they first popped up, but it seemed they had good intentions. Plus, the fan page on FB is updated, particularly now while these events are going, showing off screenshots etc, or updating with interviews. So i think they're chanelling things out in a better way than Conquest was.

Freek:

I think the difference is that this does seem to be more of a big-budget game within WB Games than Conquest was within EA. Conquest never did big booths at any of the conventions like WitN did.

Cheeky Hobbit:

I mean, let's remember that this game isn't out for a very long time, and Snowblind is already demoing the game to the public. Plus, have you seen their booths? They're frickin' massive.

Heron:

I'm going to type up my notes from PAX in a moment; unfortunately I don't have any pictures, because my cell phone camera isn't exactly high quality (and they had lights strategically located to make photos hard to take), but I have some info you might all enjoy :)

Cheeky Hobbit:

Enough of the teasin', more of the pleasin'! :P
