Today is a good day for Lord of the Rings fans. Whether you have iTunes or an PSN account their are some goodies available to you.

For those with an iTunes account the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy can be downloaded. The good news is you can get a bundle of all three films for only $20.

For those who own a PS3 connected to the PlayStation Network then you can download some new themes! Embedded below is a video that showcases these themes.

Bareandir:

I'll def. be picking me up a dynamic theme tonight :).

LOTR PO:

Now I have something to look forward to when I come home from school. I talking of course about the dynamic themes not the digital copies from itunes. :P

Yams In a can:

Perfect. I am definitely gonna get this theme :).

EmThor:

Sadly there is only 1 dynamic theme up... yet. The Rivendell one, bought it, got custom sounds, very nice, but I tought they'll offer us all 4 themes... so we'll have to wait 3 more weeks to get all? :/

LOTR PO:

Hope it doesn't take weeks!

Ilaras of The Dunedain:

Thank God! I have been waiting for millennium. Can't wait to have the trilogy on my iPod. :D

Heron:

I don't really see a reason to buy the digital version of the movies. I'd rather just rip the DVDs to iPhone format myself and save the $20 for something else.

Also, I can't get the PS3 theme because I can't connect to PSN because I don't want to upgrade downgrade my firmware. (I say downgrade because they're removing a feature I want.) If they restore OtherOS functionality in a future firmware, I'll install it, at which point I may buy the LotR themes.

Yams In a can:

Oh yeah, I know what you are talking about Heron. They are doing it because of one :ehh: hacker who used the ability to install other OS's to hack/cheat...

Heron:

No, he didn't even do that, Yams. All he did was show "I can break the hypervisor". He didn't do anything useful with the discovery, and in reality there are no actual security concerns that came about as a result of his "hack".

Sony's response was a complete overreaction.

Edheldae:

yeah, can't say I'm too thrilled there with the OtherOS getting canned. Pretty pictures though. ;)

Mithrandir7:

Never been a fan of digital movies. I like being able to hold a DVD/blu-ray in my hand. :)

EmThor:

I was mistaken, sorry. I contains all 4 locations, I mean the theme. I saw the Andúin waterfall after midnight, and Rivendell, but I don't know the change cycle, tried the clock & date settings, changing to another acc., no luck, but its really neat!

zach:

Probably just time based. PS3 turned on at 5:00 PM, switch to theme 2 30 minutes, theme 3 at 60 and theme 4 at 90, repeat at 180 minutes. Something like that.

Edheldae:

Heh, mine seems stuck on the Minas Tirith assault. At least I haven't been looking at Mordor all night...

Freek:

To be honest I thought it was free first... why would I pay for a rotating display of animated LotR wallpapers?

Because its what is the standard this generation with Sony and MS. Everything costs money.

The snowking:

Alright! Each movie is $10.

That doesn't mean you should just roll over and pay for it... I'd have installed it if it were free, I dont care for it that much to pay. Default PS background is pretty cool anyway.
