In an interview with ITN, Ian Mckellen expressed his joy of taking back the role of Gandalf. Once again he doesn’t really reveal any new information, but it is reassuring to know that Ian is kept in the loop. He does make an excellent point regarding the Hobbit being made and that its not just another grab for money.

“I’m just glad Gandalf’s back,” the legendary actor said.

The 70-year-old said: “They’ve done a wonderful script, as far as I can tell, but what it will look like I’ve no idea.

“I can understand people being excited, and legitimately so. It is a real book, it was written by Tolkien, not just added on because they made a lot of money out of the first, it deserves to be made.

“It was a pity perhaps it wasn’t made before Lord of the Rings in the right sequence.”

Ilaras of The Dunedain:

Gandalf isn't Gandalf without Ian.

Mithrandir7:

Actually I can kinda see Patrick Stewart playing Gandalf. Not that I wouldn't want Ian, because I think he is irreplaceable. Simply saying both have a similar voice and background in Shakespearean theater.

Anyway, glad to see he is eager for the role! He wouldn't be nearly as good if he grudgingly took it.

Ilaras of The Dunedain:

Hmm, ya Patrick would look like a good Gandalf.

Dante:

The dude who played Dumbledore should be Gandalf for my personal laughs at the potential rage that would ensue.

zach:

The new Dumbledore isn't as good as an actor as the first Dumbledore, none the less as good as Ian Mckellen. LOL

Patrick Stewart as Saruman and Michael Gambon as Radagast? Would make for a pretty sweet cast!

Mauth-Of-Sauron:

I think Ian would be the best, and after all Gendalf must be the same, because he is immortal and cannot change :)

olaf bloodaxe:

i dnt think any fan of lotr could really adjust to someone else playing gandalf beside Ian

that's what I am talking about :)

The snowking:

I dunno I think Don Knots would be pretty good...

zach:

Without Ian McKellen it wouldn't be the same, but I would get over it. Ian McKellen did a magical job at Gandalf in LotR though.

SuPeR x CuRRy:

I could only see ian playing Gandalf he portrays the role so well
