In an interview with IGN, Peter Jackson gave some details about the casting for the Hobbit. When asked whether any of the rumored actors would play as Bilbo in the upcoming movies. Those rumored actors include Daniel Radcliffe, Martin Freeman, James McAvoy and David Tennant. Peter Jackson replied stating that some of these actors were not being considered but stating who was not being considered would narrow down the list of possible actors.
However in an interesting turn Peter Jackson stated that the casting directors were currently auditioning unknown actors to play the part of Bilbo. A new face playing Bilbo would not be a bad thing at all and would be welcome in my book. Time will tell who will play Bilbo and the coming months should prove interesting.

I was fine with Ian Holm and I would love for him to play Bilbo again, but he probably doesn't want to. Although I cant see why anybody wouldn' want to. Oh well, I will still be fine with another actor playing Bilbo. Atleast we still have Ian playing Gandalf. As long as we have Gandalf in the hands of Ian Mckellen, the movie is safe.:D

Why would no one want to play Bilbo? He's arguably the main character in one of the biggest movies of 2011/12 - I would have thought actors would be lining up left, right and center for the role. In the case of Ian Holm, it's probably that he physically can't play the role. I mean, let's not forget his age and how demanding it must be having to travel to various locations for filming.
I said from the beginning that another actor should be found for Bilbo because of the character's context for these two films; he is obviously younger than in The Lord of the Rings, which would be a hard thing to convey with Ian Holm. Therefore, a new actor would be an interesting - and welcomed - addition.
