Peter Jackson Knighted

31st December 2009 13 comments

After bringing never before seen attention to New Zealand and to the Lord of the Rings franchise, Peter Jackson has been knighted by the Queen of England, New Zealand’s head of state.

The knighthood was conferred on Jackson for his services to film. New Zealand’s knights and dames are sanctioned by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, the country’s official head of state. – CNN

According to CNN, this is the first time since 2000 that someone in New Zealand has received knighthood. Peter Jackson, as you all know, rose to fame by directing the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, a feat previously thought impossible.

The snowking:

Cool. But why was he knighted?

Mithrandir7:

Notice the quote :P

The snowking:

Right but why would that be worth knighthood? The films are great but I dont think being a great entertainer is worth knighting.

Mithrandir7:

Many rock artists have been knighted

Yams In a can:

The Lord of the Rings was the best selling trilogy of all time. Further more, it was filmed in New Zealand. It gave New Zealand attention.

MirkwoodArcher:

Right, Yams. That's what I was just about to say (the part about giving New Zealand attention).

You beat me to it. :P

Ilaras of The Dunedain:

Thats so awesome, he totally deserves it.

TokyoBlade:

Knighthood is given way too often these days.

The snowking:

I deeply concur.

The only crime is that he hasn't received a knighthood before now.
