Dutch hardware site Tweakers.net has revealed the Warner Bros. Interactive (WBI) is planning to showcase a new family-oriented Lord of the Rings videogame on the upcoming E3 gaming convention. The announcement came from a list of E3 titles the site received.
The game, titled “the Lord of the Rings: Aragorns’ Quest” puts players in Aragorn’s shoes as he goes on various quests troughout Middle-earth. The game is to be suitable for children, and will feature “brighter colours” among other visual aspects to achieve a “happy” environment. Although some missions will feature Aragorn using his weapons to defend himself, expectations are that violence will not be a big factor in the game.
No other information such as which consoles the game will appear on has been revealed, but is expected at E3. As Warner Bros’ recently announced a new game to be launched coming Christmas, it is reasonable to assume we’ll see this game on store shelves (or perhaps this is an XBL/PSN downloadable game?) later this year.

LOTR PO:
is it " The Lord Of The Rings Aragorns Quest" who is coming to christmas or is it a another new lotr game who are coming then?
Freek:
Its this one (Aragorns Quest)
pacers7isback:
IGN believes it's for Wii
Lotr Lover:
i thought it was going to be something like lotro?
Freek:
No announcements about the game have been made other then the release date and what it says in this post :)
I would say its likely to be a Wii game, or otherwise a downloadable PSN/Xbox Marketplace arcade game.
krapyl:
Omg...this isn't the game we wanted...lol :P I mean, he will barrely use his sword xD Well, quess we have to wait one year or two for a decent LotR game.
zach:
You have got to be kidding me ...
Argetlam:
Oh god, not another Hobbit game.
Leggy:
Great... Even longer for a decent melee/bow game...
guilemaster:
No freaking way... its called Aragorn's quest? Arghh, I wasn't expecting much with it being announced so soon, but still! Another year or so i suppose...
Beradrin:
oh well... I guess that my hopes for a RPG based on LOTR for PC isn't coming soon....
but still, this are good news, because they will release a new LOTR game
Khranashil:
What :O That's a real dissapointed game I see... Well still it's based on childrens gameplay like 3+. But it still sucks that Aragorn will not use his sword that much... Hmm... Let's hope in the future and see what will happen to the game. :P Still it's good that they are making LOTR game again xD Well I think it will be as sucky as LOTR:C
Freek:
I don't think its going to be very comparable with Conquest which, by comparison, was aimed at a rather "hardcore" audience.
zach:
Yes it wont be "like" Conquest in gameplay but I am guessing it will be as good as Conquest ... aka nothing to look forward too.
guilemaster:
Care to elaborate? By that do you mean its going to Hobbit-esque? I guess it won't be too bad though. At least its LOTR something.
zach:
This doesnt sound too bad ... but Conquest sounded awesome and look how it turned out. If done right this game may be a nice rental for my parents Wii.
Ranger of the Numenor:
The Hobbit game was fun then, and if you wanted an adventure game that had some story to it. But a game about Aragorn that would have little combat seems like, oh what is the word....Fail?
~Ranger
kylej13:
If there's hardly any fighting then what the heck are you supposed to be doing the whole time. This sounds like a waste of time and money. They should be focusing on the kind of game we were expecting from Conquest.
Freek:
This game isn't really for "us". By that I mean that its for < 13 kids.
zach:
It will fit in perfect with the majority of Wii games most likely ...
el kevo:
With the movies being all hardcore and PG-13 i doubt parents would want to get something like this for their kids; even if it is all cute and cuddly. They won't watch E3, they won't watch game sites, therefore by the title alone they will probably assume its not appropriate. Plus LotR has always been aimed more at the fan base then it has at casual players; Warner Bros. will soon learn that mistake.
zach:
Yes I believe you are right el kevo... maybe if this was a new hobbit game then it may have some success since its aimed at children.
Ranger of the Numenor:
I agree with both of you (kevo + Zach) LotR has always been targeted at older players not really kids. The thing I wonder is, out of all the people who have seen the movies, and played the games exactly how many do you think have read the books?
~Ranger
zach:
Not many... some people think the movie version is the best and games like lotro get shunned due to not using the movie's visuals. It goes to show that not everyone has read the books. There is a large portion of casual lotr fans, that is fans who love the movies and maybe even the games, but havnt really read the books. I think it is these people that this game is aimed at, but even then the movies came out so long ago most of the fans have grown older. Sure new people come accross the movies, but not near the number of people who became fans when the movies first released.
Ranger of the Numenor:
I really should get LotrO but, I need to get some money first and then need to figure out the issue with my lag. But once more I totally agree with you Zach.
~Ranger
Acrata:
I haven't read all the answers, but it sounds as a good idea...
guilemaster:
Ha, i agree with pretty much everything you guys have been saying the past few posts. LOTRO is great by the way. I really want to believe that WB will learn from this mistake. They have a lot of potential to make something truly great.
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Ew.... Since when do families kill Orcs?:-/
Samus1111111:
definately not mine :P
Ranger of the Numenor:
How many Families know what an Orc is....?
~Ranger
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Thats a good question.
"Dad! Help me kill this stupid Urk-hai!>:("
"Kk buddy, just aim an arrow in between the iron plates of armor, right by the shoulder.:)"
"OMG... Dad I killed it! I was several inches away from its heart but it still couldn't take on my ranger arrows! It also has black blood! Jinkies!^^:D"
"Jinkies indeed, congrats son!";)
blackkfox:
This is so bad... I really hope this isn't what the rep from Saul Zaentz was referring to when he said a new game out by the end of 2009. I have a horrible feeling that it is though.
zach:
It is .. we will probably see a lotr:O expansion too though, which is great news.
roytjuh:
I think it's gonna be like a short of puzzle game. So that you have to follow tracks.
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Possibly, thats a good idea of what it is roytjuh.
Alindur:
Family video game... yeah right :P. People have no imagination at all today...
guilemaster:
Err... here's a trailer. Be advised, it isn't for the faint-hearted...:(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pexnRZG-oNk
*Gour*:
Ahhhhhh, what did they do to LOTR! That trailer is going to give me nightmares.
guilemaster:
I know its really bad... It kind of reminds me of the old days when I played Ocarina of time. ESPECIALLy when Aragorn rides the horse past the castle. See my earlier post for trailer.
