Teamxbox has recently posted their review of the Lord of the Rings: Conquest. They gave conquest a 6.7/10 for its overall score. Some key points that they enjoyed were graphics that are accetable for this type of game and plenty of game modes to a fair amount of replay ability.

If there’s any spot for concern with the movie/IP elements of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, it would have to be the voice acting. The soundtrack is quite compelling, and the sound effects hold their own, but much of the spoken word doesn’t quite cut it. The script is solid enough, as is the recording and programming of the dialog, but the talent isn’t up to par. Granted, the LotR trilogy contained many A-list actors; big, +5 Armor leather boots to fill for sure. But the quality of the presentation still takes a hit when the conversations heat up.

Basic combat moves are all well and good, but the more interesting, advanced tactics have combo strings that are overly fighting game-like. Many of the special tactics are trumped by the “strength in numbers” tactic to which both the enemy A.I. and human multiplayer contestants subscribe. Basically, it’s hard for a sword, arrow or magic spell to be effective when being gang-beaten and/or blindsided. Another issue with The Lord of the Rings: Conquest battles and their characters is that the tools that they wield aren’t all that interesting to use. A two-handed sword with clunky combos reduces most melee combat to frantic button mashing. The archery component of the Archer class—something that could have been made very cool—is a pretty drab projectile action that doesn’t bring user skill into play enough. The Scout is another class with potential, but the backstab kills and satchel tosses aren’t that interesting to use, or as effective as they should have been given the class’ other weaknesses. Third-person combat gameplay that isn’t all that engaging can be tolerated in the action/RPG realm, but it’s a bit of a bummer in the real-time skirmishes of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest.
