MEC: We haven’t heard a lot about the Evil faction, do they have the same classes as the good guys?
Giz: Though the classes are the same, the Evil team has their own unique tools on the battlefield. They have playable trolls, Oliphaunts and Wargs to ride, Catapults, Battering Rams, and Ballistae to defend with, and a few other nasty surprises for the good guys.
MEC: What about their heroes?
Giz: We went pretty deep with the villains you can play in this game. These include: Saruman, Wormtongue, the Nazgul, the Witch King, Lurtz, The Mouth of Sauron, a Balrog, and even The Dark Lord Sauron himself.
MEC: How much customization do players get? Will they be able to pick different weapons or will they only be able to pick a certain class?
Giz: This game is all about the combat. We decided to focus on the combat balance and class diversity, so the weapons are determined by the class you choose. This was also an attempt to stay faithful to the look and feel of the battles.
MEC: How does combat work? Will we be able to block attacks and make special moves?
Giz: Combat is focused in two main areas: melee and ranged. For melee combat, each class has a unique set of attacks that can be strung together to form combos. Melee units can also block and counter attack with special moves. The warrior is more of a straight forward melee fighter, while the scout has additional stealth tactics to give him some complexity. Also, each melee-focused hero has their own unique attacks and special moves. For ranged combat, we’ve expanded from traditional shooter mechanics to include magical attacks for the mage, special arrows for the archer, sniper mode, and other special abilities to round out the ranged classes.
MEC: Will the ranged classes have some type of defense against melee attacks?
Giz: Yes. Each ranged class will have a limited set of melee attacks for when they get in a bind. In addition, every melee class will have some form of quick, ranged attack.
MEC: Does the multiplayer component use ‘dedicated’ servers? Will players be able to set up their own?
Giz: Both. Dedicated servers will host 16 player networked games. Players will be able to host their own games with up to 4 players. Also, players will be able to play networked co-op campaign missions online.
MEC: There are a number of different console versions, are there any major differences between the PC, PS3 and Xbox360 versions especially?
Giz: We’ve tried to stay as consistent between the different platforms. Obviously the PC version will have some gameplay differences to accommodated for mouse/keyboard controls. For the most part, we wanted players to get a consistent gameplay experience.
MEC: In a recent article about Conquest in GameInformer, a new Guardian class was mentioned. However, in the recent GT TV episode it was not. Will there be any classes beyond the four we already know?
Giz: For now, the Warrior, Scout, Archer, and Mage will be the four playable classes in the game (minus the trolls, mounts, siege equipment, and unique heroes, of course).
MEC: Are there plans to introduce more classes or perhaps other new content like maps before release?
Giz: You’ll just have to wait and see…
MEC: Thank you very much for taking the time to have a talk with us!
Let us know what you think, discuss the interview on our forums.

Bareandir:
Great reading and good questions!
Thanks MeC!
zach:
Dwarves are confirmed!!!!! It sucks that maps are race specific though. I mean they have mages but the make maps race specific to remain authentic.....
krapyl:
veeery nice....CONQUEST IS ALIVE!
Samus1111111:
looks sweet :), especially the dwarves :P
Ronald W 4:
we got a reinforcement from the lone mountain, ALRIGHT!!!!
my question is will the archers be axe throwers, or dale archers? or both
Freek:
This isn't BfME, as Giz said, all the classes are the same except for appearance, so you will just see a dwarf with a bow. (There were dwarf archers, by the way, EA just decided not to have them in BfME2)
derekbrooks19:
when does this game come out thats what i want to know
Ronald W 4:
oh...
well... that kinda blows me bubbles, about the archer thing
and also the thing about the battle army specific crap! i was so looking forward to what would happen if saruman controlled helm's deep and rohan was attacking it
also if it was dwarves at minas tirith, being attacked by saruman
Ayodon:
This is awesome news!
BTW thanks for the capitolization Freek! :D
Sezuan:
This looks very nice. Thanks for setting this up MEC! And thanks for the good info! :D
zach:

krapyl:
When do new information come :P
I wanna see a video or something.....btw this is awesome to :D
Freek:
I don't mind that much. I for one prefer things the way they are planned. I dont feel much for defending Minas Tirith as Elves or attacking Isengard as Mordor.
Ayodon:
yeah the realism is kind of important I guess but it would make it more fun if you could
Alindur:
Wow, the interview is awesome, well done :D!
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
omgsh thank you for this!
The picture at the top... why dosen't the Galadrhim have a traditional Elven sword? I thought that was kinda weird. But I am still glad there are different races!!! The Rohirrim look amazing!!
morothar:
actually ilaras elves had the same weapons as men because men learned how to forge weapons from the elves and thus they had to have simliar weapons
Samus1111111:
Welcome morothar!!!!
Yes, they had the same weapons, but their designs were extremely different. Men's swords were straight, while elves were curved. In the picture the elf is holding a straight sword, so that is not completely accurate :(. I think that that is what Ilaras is talking about, that they should have given the elves curved swords.
Ayodon:
yep the Elf swords should be curved like this:

Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Yes... welcome morarthar.
Yeah I understand the whole elf teach man sword yeah yeah but yes samus said exactly what I was trying to point out. But after I posted that, I went and watched the gamplay video (I think thats what it is called) and at the end it shows elves in Rivendel with the Katana/Scimitar based swords. So yay!!!^^
omg those are beutiful ayodan. lol
Ayodon:
really they have there scimitars? cool and thanks there the best pictures I could find there not the ones from the movies those are really amazing looking
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Yes, just go to the videos at the home page(last tab thing), and scroll through the orange playlist and its called 'Battle Footage'
Its cool.
Rayman:
You forget to ask 1 thing or they didn't answered ? WILL BE DEMO ???
Samus1111111:
I hope that there will be a demo :P
and sweet swords ayodon :)
Freek:
These questions were asked before we even started to post topics for Community Day questions. Those will be posted by Sledge70 later on :)
Rayman:
ok i'll wait then................did i wait enough ?
Leaffan20:
this is an awesome interview, the first piece of news since like August! I wonder if any formal news will be released on this game soon.
zach:
Well hopefully Sledge willl have some today ...............
Sledgehammer:
Formal news is coming according to Pandemic. When that is I have no idea but they do have a plan to make sure the community knows what is going on.
Mithrandir7:
Nice interview, that was an interesting read. It appears I might even start to look forward to this game a little bit :P
morothar:
the elves actually had staright swords in the books and same with the men
Aragonath:
I really want to see what have they done with the dwarves, i mean... with all the lore from actual games a lot of people didn't get used to see them using bows :-/
Well, since they sad that the classes for all the races are the same, i have pretty sure that we'll see dwarven bowman in the battlefield
krapyl:
And again...do someone know when new info comes out :P
I am sooooooo exited
Samus1111111:
I actually prefer the dwarven axe throwers compared to the dwarven archers. It just seems more like a dwarf to use an axe instead of a bow.
Ayodon:
same here but beggars cant be choosers right? :D besides im sure the Dwarf warriors will have throwing axes. :)
Samus1111111:
Hopefully :P
Ayodon:
all the other melle classes do itll be a shame not to include the Dwarves
Samus1111111:
yes, especially because the dwarves are the only ones of all of the factions to use throwing axes.
Ayodon:
well in conquest every faction has throwing axes
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Samus1111111:
m@tt:
Dwarves don't throw axes anyway (well, Gimli did once in the movie). Why would they throw away the things they spend hours making? They use bows, as made very clear in the books.
*old bfme 2 grievances released*
:P
Samus1111111:
hmm... still like the idea of dwarves throwing axes compared to any of the other factions. Can you see an elf throwing an axe, the weapon that cuts down the trees that they love?
Sledgehammer:
The Warrior throws an Axe... it is nice when your running at a guy as it has a knock back feature that allows you to obtain first strike :)
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Sledgehammer:
Aragonath:
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Shadeslayer92:
Because the Rohirrim are all into horses and stuff, wouldn't it be better if they had some sort of throwing spear or javelin.
It would also be good ifthe Rohirrim would get some sort of attack bonus while they are on horseback.
Samus1111111:
ya, the Rohirrim used throwing spears, so that would be perfect
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
yeah, throwing spears would be even better than axes.(they did use axes)
Samus1111111:
not as often as spears :)
Aragonath:
But is a little bit strange run around with a spear on your back =P
I think the spears should be available like in ROTK, they're located in the ground somewhere in the battlefield and, when found, could be used one time only.
Beradrin:
so, if the elves don't have axes, what do they throw ??
Ayodon:
Daggers :)
Beradrin:
well, that makes sense, but is that confirmed??
Aragonath:
Daggers are the best alternate option.
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Ayodon:
they used bows sometimes to.
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
Yes, hopefully the archers can mount a horse. Can't all of the or just the Warriors?
Aragonath:
I think that all classes can.
It will be awesome mount in a horse as a Rohirrim Archer and ride towards a Mumâk.
Like Eomer said in the movies:
"Aim for the heads!!"
Samus1111111:
All of the classes can ride a horse, if you watch the latest trailer, you can see an archer riding a horse and shooting at a mumakil.
Beradrin:
headshot for everyone !!!!
but if the archer can mount a horse, will he be able to shoot while riding ??
Samus1111111:
I said that he was SHOOTING while riding.
Does that answer your question :P
Beradrin:
sorry, didn't noticed...:S
Rayman:
Anyway it's great idea riding and fighting...(easily i hope so)...
Warrior123:
I have only one word to say:
LOTR: Conquest is amazing
Samus1111111:
that's 4 words :P (three if you count Lotr: Conquest as one word)
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
lol people do that all the time.
Samus1111111:
I know, just like to make fun of it :P
Ilaras of The Dunedain:
I was just saying that it seems like everyone does. It is fun to make fun of it.:D
