Word has been going around the web that the new LotR game, having been confirmed to be in development by EA studio ‘Pandemic’, is to be a first person shooter.
Yes, a first person shooter! Well at least with a play style as such. According to the rumour, it would be a Battlefield2-esque game, meaning it would have a strong focus on multiplayer squad and team-based gameplay. Just imagine instead of trying to capture the flag with a squad of special ops, you would be running around with a heavily armoured Gondorian soldier team.
Even more, there would be mounts, the equivalent of a tank or a jet fighter. Of course, all this is is a rumour, so treat it as such.
The untitled Lord of the Rings game is currently in development by Pandemic, and is scheduled for a release before March 21st, 2009. More details as they come in.

I don't want to see people queuing to get on an eagle or fellbeast, or mumakil walking trough Helms Deep :P
If they do it right though, stick to the lore, make the art and graphics right, and making gameplay enjoyable and competitive without making it ridiculously un-canon, it should be great!

Wow... tho only if you can play it in 3rd person view. It's not very fun if you can't even see your character :/

I dont dislike first person view. I kinda wish Lotro had it. Besides zooming in. Thats not really a 1st person view..

Its pretty hard when you have swords and such, instead of a permanent "arm" on your screen like you get with most shooters.

You ask this for a game published by EA? I would say its guaranteed it will be released for all next-gen consoles as well as PC. Maybe not the Wii though....

I guess it has to be a third person game if it will incorporate sword fighting. Maybe similar to the Jedi Outcast/Academy games, but much better and LOTR :D
